Gifted/Talented
Identifications
There are Four Identifications for Gifted/Talented:
Gifted: Aptitude or competence in abilities, talents, and potential for accomplishment in one or more domains are so exceptional or developmentally advanced that they require special provisions to meet their educational programming needs.
Talented: Your child demonstrates proficiency in theses areas: Musical, Visual Arts, Psychomotor, Performing Arts
Twice-Exceptional: Your child has both an area of giftedness and an area of need in Special Education.
High Ability: High achievers and gifted students are not synonyms. High achievers can work hard and grow quickly. Gifted students have a brain-based difference in the way they learn and process information. It may not always look like the highest reader or the quickest mathematician.
Universal Screening for Gifted/Talented
We test all children for gifted/talented through a screener called CoGat. We test in 2nd grade and in 7th grade to make sure we have identified every child who needs this support. Students who score in the 95% percentile will be given an Advanced Learning Plan.
